Announcement: His Lungs Monthly Walk!

My Father loved walking & he loved to be outdoors. Despite living with IPF, he managed to keep his passion alive until he passed away in June 2017. In his memory I invite YOU to come join us on the last Sunday of each month for a gentle walk where you can get back outdoors, meet likeminded people & enjoy a cup of tea and a chat afterwards.

The walks are open to anyone and everyone who has been affected by lung disease. Whether you are a patient, a caregiver, a relative, friend or just want to join in, all are welcome! Whilst we’ll be planning most of them to take place in Derbyshire, you are more than welcome to drive the distance to join in or plan your own similar event closer to you. If you want to join us on our first walk at the end of April then see below for more details…

The first walk will take place on Sunday 29th April at Hardwick Lakes, Chesterfield, Derbyshire, S44 5QJ from 2pm. I’m very familiar with this route as this was where me and Dad routinely visited for a gentle stroll, at the time he was on level 6-8 oxygen and with a ten minute break was able to get round in under an hour. The picture below is him during my most favourite season (Autumn) walking under the shade of trees on one side of the lake using his umbrella as a walking stick and his LOX tank in his backpack.

> > > We will meet in Hardwick Park car park and set off for a steady walk which takes no longer than forty minutes.

> > > It’s a flat circular walk around one of Hardwick Lakes and is suitable for people on oxygen or in mobility scooters/wheelchairs (weather dependent, it can get a tad muddy in some areas).

> > > There are also plenty of benches and picnic tables to take breaks on around the route.

> > > The car park is right on the walk and there are toilets and a small visitor centre, not to mention a wealth of wildlife to look out for and a stunning view of Hardwick Hall.

> > > There is a small car park charge or it’s free if you’re a National Trust member.

> > > Please feel free to come even if you don’t want to walk, there is a lovely picnic area to sit in and chat with others whilst you observe the beautiful scenery.

> > > After the walk we will gather at a nearby Starbucks for a coffee. There is ample indoor/outdoor seating as well as a large car park. It’s easily accessible just off of Hasland bypass about a five minute drive away. Postcode: S44 5SF

Please feel free to invite friends and family to join in!
